Father and son duo, Michael and Oliver, recently travelled through India’s famous Golden Triangle with Intrepid – taking in Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. Here’s Oliver’s diary from their adventure.
Day 1: Delhi
After checking into the hotel we started with a group meeting and dinner to get to know our guide and the others in the group.
Day 2: Delhi
We began the day with a guided tour of Old Delhi, visiting India’s oldest mosque and a Gurdwara, where we learnt about the Sikh religion and even helped make chapati.
Lunch was at Haldiram, a popular local chain, where we tucked into dosa and Indian sweets before exploring the spice market to pick up spices and chai to take home. The day ended with a cold beer at a local bar and dinner with the group.
Day 3: Jaipur

An early start for a five-hour transfer to Jaipur, known as the Pink City. After checking in, our guide led us on an orientation tour that included a visit to a local jeweller and the 300-year-old ancient sun dials. We ended the day with a rooftop dinner overlooking Jaipur and the mountains at sunset.
Day 4: Jaipur
A quick photo stop at the Hawa Mahal was followed by a bumpy ride to the Amber Fort, where we explored the beautiful blend of Hindu and Islamic architecture. After a lassi and samosa break, we visited the Rajasthani royal palace, then ended the day with drinks and dinner at the Clock Tower.
Day 5: Lotwara Homestay
A well-earned lie-in before heading to Lotwara, a small town east of Jaipur. This peaceful stop was a welcome break from the buzz of the cities. We relaxed by the pool, played games with the group and enjoyed a traditional village dinner.
Day 6: Agra
After checking in, we headed straight to the Taj Mahal – my personal highlight of the trip. The weather was perfect and we managed to capture some incredible photos.
Dinner was on another rooftop with the group, followed by a fascinating textile tutorial where I discovered the print on my t-shirt was on display!
Day 7: Delhi

Our final day began at Humayun’s Tomb, which actually inspired the Taj Mahal. We spent the afternoon relaxing before our farewell dinner at a 200-year-old restaurant in Old Delhi.
My dad and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Chantelle for organising our Golden Triangle trip to India. The ten days went so fast, and we had the best time. From exploring Old Delhi by rickshaw to standing in awe of the Taj Mahal, everything was perfectly organised.
We’d highly recommend booking with Ultimate Destinations and are already looking forward to planning our next adventure with them.
